If you're wondering why we need you to fill out tax forms - since we are a US based business we are required to collect information on people we are paying. This is similar to the type of information you'd need to provide if you got a job at local restaurant.

US Residents

If you are a US citizen or based within the US, you should most likely complete the W9 tax form within the Plug Payment site. If you are not within the US, and are filing as an Individual (not a business) you should complete the W-8BEN tax form. In this case, you will need to provide your TIN number, which is different for every country. In Canada this is your SIN Number, in the UK it's your National Insurance Number.

Outside the US

If you are not within the US, and are filing as an Individual (not a business) you should most likely complete the W-8BEN tax form. In this case, you will need to provide your TIN number, which is different for every country. In Canada this is your SIN Number, in the UK it's your National Insurance Number. You may need to upload "proof of no US based activities". If you are a US citizen or based within the US, you should most likely complete the W9 tax form within the Plug Payment site.

Will I need to pay taxes?

By providing this information, it does not necessarily mean you will need to fill out a tax return this year.

Whether or not you need to fill out a tax return depends on a few factors, including whether you are listed as a dependent on your parents tax return. Please talk to your guardian, accountant or consult a service such as Turbo Tax to determine if you need to file a tax return this year. More information can be found here.

Security

Your personal information is kept secure by our partner Tipalti. Tipalti is SSAE 16 SOC compliant and ISAE 3402 Type II certified. All data is collected and transmitted securely over HTTPS and personally identifiable information is stored encrypted using AES, the same level of encryption trusted by industry leaders such as Amazon and PayPal.
